"Nightside Serenade" est la version mélodique du death metal scandinave. Avec un refrain atteignant des sommets inconnus où le chanteur MHA se surpasse et délivre une véritable reprise chantante, pour laquelle il est également connu dans son autre groupe Withering Surface. Celui-ci est pour les fans des anciens At The Gates, Dissection et Eucharist ! La vidéo met en vedette l'actrice/danseuse Rachel Phoebe Davies . « Le fait que Rachel fasse son truc dans la vidéo s'est avéré incroyable et exactement comme je l'avais imaginé », déclare la chanteuse MHA. ____________________________ Le groupe de death metal scandinave Thorium revient en force. Son nouvel album « The Bastard » sortira en septembre. Leur sixième album depuis leur formation en 1997 « Ce n'était pas prévu, mais au printemps de cette année, je me suis senti incroyablement inspiré pour écrire un album qui reviendrait au tout début de Thorium. Faire l'album qui serait la suite naturelle de notre premier album - ou en fait remonter encore plus loin et faire un album qui était censé être notre véritable premier album. Du moins dans ma tête. Quand nous avons joué en Amérique du Sud au festival Septembro Negro en septembre de l'année dernière, j'ai rencontré mon vieil ami Martin Schulmann (Centinex et Demonical) et cela a en quelque sorte déclenché quelque chose en moi. Martin faisait partie de la formation originale de Thorium. Tout comme Jonas Lindblood de Taetre (maintenant Puteraeon) avec qui je suis resté en contact au fil des ans. Alors je me suis dit : « Merde. » « Faisons de l'album « The Bastard » le premier album original de Thorium », déclare MHA, fondateur de Thorium. « J'avais l'impression de rencontrer une nouvelle fille qui ressemble et agit comme votre ancienne petite amie et de transformer cela en une relation créative qui, cette fois, fonctionne réellement et tout se passe exactement comme vous le souhaitez, car vous avez le contrôle total et vous savez quelles erreurs ne pas commettre. Est-ce que cela a du sens ? », poursuit MHA. Et bien, l'équipe de compositeurs composée de Rogga Johansson (Paganizer), Thomas Olsson (Blackscape) et MHA a commencé à travailler et l'opération a été rapide et sale, capturant l'ancienne ambiance de l'écriture du death metal scandinave. L'ensemble du processus de création de l'album a finalement pris moins de six mois, depuis le début de l'écriture des chansons en mars, jusqu'à l'enregistrement en avril, le mixage et le mastering en mai jusqu'à la sortie de l'album en septembre. Le bassiste de Thorium, Jesper Nielsen, a ajouté la basse et les guitaristes de Thorium, JP Storm et Jose Cruz, sont tous deux présents avec des solos de guitare sur l'album aux côtés de Jonas Lindblood. « Parfois, on finit par attendre et attendre encore la sortie d’un album. Certaines chansons sont écrites il y a des années, les enregistrements ont été faits il y a des années, l’album est reporté par le label, tous les membres du groupe ont 100 avis sur tout, de la pochette au plus petit détail du mix. Avec cet album, tout semble frais, énergique et comme une grosse érection », rit MHA. Le mixage et le mastering de l'album ont été confiés à Marco Angioni aux Angioni Studios et les mots clés étaient « fort », « son puissant », « massif » avec une approche moderne de la vieille école. « Cette fois-ci, nous voulions que le son provienne des enceintes. Certains groupes de death metal visent un son old school comme celui de 1991, avec « The Bastard », nous avons visé un son frais anno 2024 qui devrait être massif et sans compromis », acquiesce MHA. « À l’origine, l’idée du titre de l’album était « Sverige » (Suède en suédois), comme suite du dernier album intitulé « Danmark » (Danemark en danois), donc la couverture symbolise la carte de la Suède – si on y regarde de plus près. Comme pour les deux derniers albums, le maître italien Roberto Toderico a été choisi pour réaliser la pochette. Au final, « The Bastard » était un titre plus approprié, car cet album a vraiment été fait d’une manière différente, d’une manière bâtarde que l’on ne peut faire que lorsqu’on pense à la boîte, qu’on est pleinement concentré et qu’on prend le contrôle total et que c’est probablement quelque chose qu’on ne peut faire qu’une fois ? ». « En termes de chant, c'est sans aucun doute l'album de Thorium le plus varié et le plus bien interprété jamais réalisé. Sur cet album, je me sentais vraiment au top de ma forme et certains des refrains sont les plus forts que j'aie jamais faits - dans tous les groupes avec lesquels j'ai enregistré », conclut MHA.
