Democracy is the Best Revenge

"All three members said that their music is inherently political in a way that reflects the city in which it was established." - NBC

Dead Bhuttos was originally formed in 2007 by Basim Usmani, as his Pakistani project to compliment his main band The Kominas. However, the run was short lived and only produced one song “Teri Aisi Ki Taisi” which was featured on a few compilations, before Basim returned to the USA. Fast forward to 2016, with Lahore home to a growing DIY scene, Basim hooked up with Hassan Amin and Sheraz Ahmed from Multinational Corporations. The two had been recording music as well as putting on shows together for quite some time, creating a little underground ecosystem that was missing during Dead Bhuttos’ initial run.

"It's no exaggeration to say that Amin and partner-in-crime Sheraz Ahmed are the hardest working men in Pakistan. Between them, they've established Lahore as a bastion of extreme music in Pakistan" - The Hindu Business Line

Deciding to reform Dead Bhuttos as a serious musical outfit and delivering a dose of raw ‘desi’ punk as an antithesis to the consumerism that plagued even the underground, the trio jammed and recorded three songs in the span of a few days, which were then mixed & mastered by Sheraz. Musically the influences draw from a diverse pool of 80's hardcore punk, while unashamedly sporting a metallic edge - which comes as no surprise, owing to the long running metal scene in the country. Lyrically the EP pays homage to the revolutionary struggle in Pakistan through the years, exemplified in the opening track itself, which is based on two poems by Habib Jalib, a prominent poet from the country.

"Democracy is the Best Revenge is a short teaser teeming with promise. Yet for all its brevity you'll find yourself listening to its unrelenting attack over and over again." - Decibel Demo:Listens

Released digitally on the 27th of January, it currently awaits release through Slap Bet Records (Singapore) on vinyl, Psychotic Break (USA) and Tempang Records (Malaysia) on tape, and Incanned Records (India) on CD. There are plans of a tour involving the band members other projects.
